This spoof was inspired by the song Rio by Duran Duran.

Her name is Crikette and she stabs them in the back,

Aaah, the very first song we ever recorded for the Tavern. Duran Duran's 'Rio' was my favorite of all of the songs played by Barq and I in his 80s covers band. I loved that song, not least because we morphed the slow-ass sax solo into the guitar solo you hear here.

So.. It's a while into my EQ career. I've made lots of friends. One of them is this little gnome rogue called Crikette. I used to always love idly thinking about parody lyrics - I wrote "Money for Muffins and your chips for free" about the food service industry, "Return To Vendor" about the PC Hardware industry...  And one day I just found myself humming, "Her name is Crikette and she stabs them in the back". It may even have been while Barq and I were playing EQ with Crik in our group.

So I decided to take it from the idea stage and see if I could craft an entire song around it, parody the whole damn thing. So I spent a day or so writing lyrics, then Barq spent some time crossing them out and eventually we came up with the finished product.... Now.. I'd written lyrics for a couple of EQ parody songs and posted them on various messageboards before, but nothing had really gone any further than that. But Rio was a song that we already knew how to play well and had even recorded as part of the 80s cover band promo CDs. We already had the music. We already had all of the sequencer synth tracks.

So we figured we'd lay the tracks down and see how it came out.

Crik loved it... And thus, the Tavern was born......
