I am originally from Xev and still maintain close friendships there. Tarsk, also from Xev, and those from Tarsk's Tavern wrote a song to the tune of Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. I think they did a great job, check out the link to the mp3 and lyrics below.

Don't Wake The Sleeper

Kerafyrm has come
Here but now he's gone
We didn't want to wake the Sleeper
We thought he would always be there (we could always see him)

Come on baby (don't wake the Sleeper)
Baby take a look (don't wake the Sleeper)
Keep him in your mind (don't wake the Sleeper)
Maybe we still can

Warders now are done
Here but now they're gone
Sleeping in his bubble
Lying for the world to see (sleeping in his bubble)
40,000 people have seen him there (sleeping in his bubble)
40,000 people have seen him there (and will never forget)
Another 40,000 can never see (we can hear the stories)

Come on baby (don't wake the Sleeper)
Baby take a look (don't wake the Sleeper)
Keep him in your mind (don't wake the Sleeper)
Maybe we still can

Now no more is one
Here but now he's gone
Woke him from his slumber
It was clear now what never would be (and we'll never see)
The wind it howled and then he appeared (and we'll never see)
He woke up and then disappeared (and we'll never see)
Laid to waste and then disappeared (saying let him lie)

Come on baby (he can live in our memories)
And the pictures still (they tell the story)
We looked at him and we said good bye (he was gone forever)
And never again (he was gone forever)

Come on baby (don't wake the Sleeper)
Baby take a look (don't wake the Sleeper)
Keep him in your mind (don't wake the Sleeper)
Maybe we still can

Thanks for the kind words, Meimei - And thanks for digging up the lyrics to this.

The story behind this song is that Xev was one of the last of the old (although not original) servers to preserve the sleeper in his natural sleeping state in the tomb. Many high powered first tier guilds had gone in there farming, but by unspoken agreement, they'd left him sleeping. For those of you who don't know, waking the sleeper was a once-per-server event. It changed the world of Norrath forever, and also permanently changed the zone that he was in. More than that, unlike other standard creatures who would simply respawn after a time, The Sleeper would never come back. Once he was woken, it was the end of an era. He would cros zone lines (the only mob to do so) and he was effectively unkillable.

Finally, one day, a fairly new high-level guild took it upon themselves to wake the sleeper and thus deprive the rest of us from the chance of seeing him. I personally only ever saw him in screenshots. There was massive backlash from the Xev community and massive flamewars on the boards, as you might imagine.

Barq and I were well into the Tarsk's Tavern project by then, and so we decided that rather than join the hate-fest on the boards (Although I think I'm probably guilty of posting a vitriolic message or two) we'd do a Tavern song to commemorate the Sleeper and salute his passing.

Don't ask me why we chose 'Don't Fear The Reaper'. Like most of our parodies... It just made sense. 'Don't Fear The Reaper' had the sense of melancholy nostalgia that we were looking for, and the title lent itself to the 'Don't Wake The Sleeper' parody. We wrote a very small number of non-humorous parodies. This is one of them.
